There is no denying that to see a snow leopard is to experience something very special; these majestic creatures are known for their beauty, grace and elegance, and are difficult to spot in their home mountain ranges of Asia. Beautiful and mysterious, these stunning cats are not style over substance; they are amazing jumpers, and can leap up to 50 feet in a single bounce, and have the ability to traverse harsh terrain and the mountain climates with their long tails, thick fur, and wide feet.
Sadly, snow leopards are one of the many creatures to find themselves on the endangered list, and conservation work is underway to help get numbers back up, and help to save them from the risk of extinction.
Do your part to celebrate and enjoy these magnificent creatures, by learning how to draw your own cartoon snow leopard.

Step-By-Step Instructions
1.
Get a black liner. Start around an inch from the top, and an inch from the right hand side of the page, so that you are in the top right corner. Draw a small "love heart" shape, keeping the bottom slightly curved rather than pointed.
2.
Fill in the "love heart" with a black shade, so that it looks solid.
3.
Add two small, curved lines, heading downwards from the bottom of the shape, and curling out and up to either side, almost like a smile!
4.
Connect the bottom of these two lines together with a curved line, to create a "squashed triangle" shape, with the original "love heart" above. This will soon be transformed into the chin and mouth of your snow leopard – can you see the shape starting to take form?
5.
Return to the "love heart" shape, and follow the lines up and slightly above the top of the shape, so that you have two lines, curving inwards – this will form the nose.
6.
Next, connect the bottom corners of the "triangle" – the smile – to the center of the two lines you just created – the nose. These will be your snow leopard cheeks!
7.
Add a few details to the cheeks by dotting some marks on both sides – these are the whiskers, and are very important in allowing snow leopards in the wild to fit through gaps, explore their surroundings, and hunt successfully.

Next, add two very small circles above the shape, roughly in line with the edges of the cheeks.
9.
Draw two larger circles around these smaller ones – can you see the eyes beginning to form?
10.
Add two shapes above the eyes – these should look like semicircles, which are slightly longer than they are wide.
11.
Connect these two semicircles together with a curved line, joining the shapes at the bottom.
12.
Next, draw a curved line from the outside bottom corner of the left hand semicircle, moving out and down to meet the cheek of your snow leopard; aim to end the curve roughly in line with the dots you drew earlier. Then, repeat this on the other side.
13.
Move to the bottom of the face, and place your pencil around halfway across the chin. Draw a smooth, slightly curved line heading down and to the left, at around a 45 degree angle. We will refer to this later as "Line 1."
14.
Next, return to the bottom left hand corner of the left hand ear, and draw another line out to the left.
15.
Return to the Line 1, and draw two lines, curved at the top and moving inwards as you move down the line.
16.
Now, move to the end of the two lines, and add a paw by drawing a short, curved line to the right, curving up, and ending with a line heading to the left, meeting the bottom of the leg. Then, add another curve around halfway across the shape, giving you two toes.
17.
Return to the curve of the chest in front of the leg, and continue the line from the line of the back leg, curving slightly up as you move to the left.
18.
Next, add a back leg by drawing a shorter, smooth curve, joined to the line of the belly, and followed by another, slightly curved line to the back. This will form the back leg.
19.
Move to the bottom of the back line which makes up the back leg, and draw a short line straight down. Then, move to the front line of the back leg, and repeat the line, this one slightly shorter.
20.
Add a paw to the back leg, just as before.
21.
Return to the front of your snow leopard, and add another leg, slightly behind the first, by drawing two parallel lines heading downwards, ending in a curved paw. Hide the very end of the paw behind the front paw.
22.
Now, return to the back leg, and draw another leg slightly in front of this one – again, follow the curves and shape of the back leg.
23.
Move back to the top of your snow leopard, and to the point where the back stops, and continue this line downwards at a 45 degree angle, until it is just above the height of the paws.
24.
At the end of the line, curve down and around, creating a parallel line which reaches up to the body, creating a full, solid tail – remember, snow leopards rely on their long tail for balance, so this is important!
25.
Now it is time for some details. Add a few snow leopard spots to the head and face of your drawing, and fill these in with a strong black.
26.
Add a few spots all down the front leg – leave these unfilled for the moment.
27.
Repeat this on the very back leg, again, not filling in the spots.
28.
Decorate the body of your snow leopard with long, angular circles and ovals…
29.
And add a few semicircles all along the tail, including a larger one at the very tip.
30.
Now go back and fill in all the spots carefully, so that they stand out in a striking and bold black.
31.
Finally, make sure your snow leopards eyes really shine, by adding a vibrant gold color – all the better to hunt their prey with!
